Motivational Interviewer’s Practitioner course

This is an intense 32-hour course specifically designed to teach each student the art of Motivational Interviewing along with how it can be used as a leadership model. It’s a highly interactive class recognizing adult learning styles and connecting with each person. Students can expect engaged instructors, inventive presentations, class activities, and direct examples of how Motivational Interviewing will work for them or their organization.

Motivational Interviewer’s skill-building session

This is a one: four-hour follow-up sessions (typically performed twice in a day for schedule adaptability from 8 A.M. to noon then 1 P.M. to 5 P.M.) for people who have went through the Practitioner’s course or who already know Motivational Interviewing and are looking to hone their skills. This class is designed to be fluid, to recognize the barriers students may be having or identify areas that have been highly successful and need to be shared collaboratively. This is an essential part of the Motivational Interviewing growth process as it usually occurs a few weeks after the initial training. This allows students an opportunity to practice Motivational Interviewing on a practical level then return with real-life experience and questions. Our trainers listen to each student’s experience or questions and design training and activities to specifically help in key areas.

Motivational Interviewing Coder course

This is a 40-hour class specifically designed to teach students the analytics or mechanics behind Motivational Interviewing using the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity or (MITI) scale. The MITI is a proven and reliable scale designed to assess a practitioner’s knowledge and skills in performing Motivational Interviewing. Students in this class will learn the MITI scale and its functionality along with listening to recorded tapes of practitioners performing Motivational Interviewing sessions. From there, they will learn how to “code” interviews based on how much the conversation aligns with the principles of Motivational Interviewing and provide feedback to fellow practitioners for improvement. This is an essential course for those individuals or agencies who are seriously looking for quality and sustained change using the principles of Motivational Interviewing.

Motivational Interviewing: Train-the-Trainer course

This is a 40-hour class designed to teach respective student(s) “how” to teach the Motivational Interviewers Practitioner’s course. This is part of the end-to-end consulting service from Telos MI. (See services sections for specific details surrounding this option). Student(s) will first take the Motivational Interviewing Practitioner’s course (not included in the train-the-trainer’s price) to become Practitioners in Motivational Interviewing. Student(s) will then “shadow” our instructors during all subsequent trainings to other students. This is a time to slowly integrate into our training manual and ease into the trainer’s role. This allows the student to learn while being seen as a subject matter expert to fellow peers. Depending on how many Motivational Interviewing Practitioner’s courses are taught, the student(s) will have a greater role in teaching the class and offering insight. At the conclusion of all Practitioner’s courses the student(s) will go through the 40-hour class where they will be given the presentation, instructor manual, student manuals, and any additional information needed to teach the Practitioner’s course. Our instructors will then provide guidance on each part of the presentation, what it is designed to teach, and field any question respective students may have. The last part of the class actually has each student(s) teach portions of the class to our instructors and fellow trainers, followed by collaborative feedback for improvement. (Please note Telos MI will provide its training material to agencies or organizations opting for the end-to-end consulting service for sustainment purposes.
